The Island of Hawaii or the "Big Island" as it is known is it is the largest island in the United States and larger than all of the other Hawaiian Islands combined. It represents 62% of the States total land area and is still growing. The Big Island is home to Mauna Kea whose peak towers some 13,780 feet above sea level. Measured from it's base at the sea floor, to it's highest peak, Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world, even taller than Mount Everest. The Big Island is famous for its volcanoes. Kilauea, the most active, has been erupting almost continuously for more than two decades.

The Big Island is home to some of Hawaii's finest luxury resorts. The Big Island is where you go to relax and pamper yourself in the warm Hawaiian sun. The island is divided into two districts, Kona and Hilo, each with its own airport. Kona is known as the sunny side and Hilo is the lush green side.
